Ty Giles Shines in Volusia Speedway Park Debut

Georgia Youngster Wins Sunshine Nationals Preliminary

MOULTRIE, Ga. (Jan. 27, 2026) — Ty Giles made the most of his first visit to Volusia Speedway Park over the weekend, scoring a preliminary feature victory during the opening round of the Sunshine Nationals in his Impulse Industrial Services / J&M Engines No. 97 Factory 97 Late Model.

The 18-year-old emerged as one of four Rogers Dabbs Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series winners on Thursday night. Giles ultimately recorded a 26th-place finish in Saturday’s $10,000-to-win Sunshine Nationals finale after retiring during a lap-24 caution while running just outside the top 10.

“I knew I had to slide Koulten or else I wouldn’t be able to get back by him,” Giles said after Thursday’s triumph. “The middle stuff was pretty good, and I just started rolling through the middle, and I’m really out of breath.”

The three-race Sunshine Nationals weekend opened Thursday with Giles posting the fourth-fastest qualifying time to secure his spot in the preliminary feature. Capitalizing on a lap-11 caution, Giles surged from third to first on the ensuing restart and pulled away to earn his first career victory at the half-mile Florida oval.

Giles continued his strong performance in Friday’s preliminary program, advancing five positions in the 20-lap feature to finish third and enter Saturday’s finale with back-to-back podiums.

Saturday night’s Sunshine Nationals main event proved more challenging, as Giles was forced to retire on lap 24 and was credited with a 26th-place finish.

Up next, Giles will return to action with the Rogers Dabbs Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series as the tour heads to Needmore Speedway for the South Georgia Showdown. The weekend includes a $2,000-to-win preliminary on Friday, followed by Saturday’s $3,000-to-win finale.
